The girl told deputies she was walking along Lampton Lane in the Berkshire development around 5 p.m. when a man in a silver Nissan pickup stopped and told her he was lost, investigators said.
The man, who the child did not know, then asked the girl to get inside the truck and show him how to get out of the development. The girl refused and ran away, investigators said.
The girl immediately told her parents, who reported the incident to authorities, investigators said.
Investigators described the man as white, about 30 years old, with a heavy build and stubble on his face. He was wearing a ball cap. The pickup he was driving had an extended cab.
Investigators have released this composite of the suspect.
