Truck Break-In Leads To 3 Felony Arrests

Two adults and a 14-year-old boy are facing felony charges after deputies say they broke into an Immokalee couple’s truck and one of the burglars tried to hit one of the victims with a vehicle as they tried to make their getaway, sheriff’s reports said.

The incident happened outside the Crestview Apartments in Immokalee shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday, reports said.

Juan Ortiz, 21, 1026 Warden Lane; Jennifer Cervantes, 23, 1318 Orange St.; and Martin Ortiz, 14, 550 19th St. N., all in Immokalee, were each charged with burglary and grand theft.

Cervantes is also facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Arrest reports say John and Amanda Bex told deputies they heard a noise outside their apartment. When they went to check it out they saw Juan Ortiz and Martin Ortiz remove two televisions and a computer monitor from the bed of the couple’s black pickup in the parking lot and then place the items into a red Ford Explorer parked next to their truck.

John Bex, 30, ran outside and confronted the suspects, reports said.

Cervantes, who was in the Explorer, then attempted to hit John Bex with the SUV, reports said.

Cervantes, Juan Ortiz and Martin Ortiz then ran away, leaving the Explorer with the stolen items inside, reports said.

Deputies located the three suspects a short while later and arrested them, reports said.
