Deputies: Employee Cashed In Stolen Lottery Tickets

A 20-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after deputies say he earned $370 by cashing in lottery tickets he stole from his employer.

The manager at Exxon Mobil gas station, 2490 Vanderbilt Beach Road, North Naples, reported that a book of 30 lottery tickets valued at $20 per ticket went missing from his office while he was on vacation, according to sheriff’s reports.

The manager told deputies that he suspected one of his employees, Arnaldo Velazquez, was responsible for the theft.

Further investigation by deputies revealed that 10 of those tickets were winners, and they were all cashed by Velazquez at Publix, 5624 Strand Blvd., North Naples, on May 15, reports said.

The store’s surveillance video shows Velazquez cashing the tickets at the customer service register, reports said.

Velazquez, 5535 Jonquil Lane, Bldg. 4, #206, North Naples, was charged with grand theft, a felony.
