Deputies Nab 2 On Burglary Charges

Two Lee County men were arrested as they tried to make their getaway after breaking into a house in Golden Gate Estates on Thursday, according to sheriff’s reports.

Patrick Warren Taylor, 32, and George Broughton, 33, both of Fort Myers, were arrested and charged with burglary and grand theft.

Arrest reports say deputies in patrol cars were responding to a burglary alarm at 2070 12th Ave. N.E. when a champagne Chevrolet passenger vehicle pulled out of the driveway at a high rate of speed.

The back sliding doors to the residence had been pried open and the glass was shattered, reports said.

Two flat screen televisions, a laptop computer, jewelry box, and other items were missing from inside, reports said.

Deputies located the Chevy a short time later parked at Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. The vehicles’ occupants, Broughton and Taylor, were arrested.

Deputies located one of the TVs and the jewelry box in the sanctuary parking lot. The contents of the jewelry box were strewn on the ground nearby and hanging from trees, reports said.
