Deputies to Address Boating Under The Influence

Preventing someone from getting behind the wheel of a car after drinking can prevent accidents, serious injuries and even death. The same is true on the water.

Twenty-one percent of all boating fatalities in 2007 were caused by alcohol consumption, according to U.S. Coast Guard statistics. To help keep boaters and passengers safe, the Coast Guard and National Association of State Boating Law Administration (NASBLA) partnered together to start Operation Dry Water.

CCSO deputies will be out patrolling the public waterways from Friday, June 26 through Sunday, June 28, 2009 on the lookout for BUIs and other boating safety violations. Law enforcement agencies in 43 states take part in this annual operation.
