A North Naples man was arrested after deputies say he refused to pull over during a traffic stop early Friday morning.Deputies were patrolling Vanderbilt Beach Road near Oakes Boulevard when they saw a black Mercury swerving in its lane, almost striking the curb three times. Deputies, wanting to check on the driver’s well-being, activated their emergency lights when the driver headed north on Logan Boulevard.
The driver, Thomas A. Viesti, 21, turned onto Saturnia Grande Drive and waited for the gate to open into the neighborhood, according to reports. Instead of stopping, Viesti then accelerated his car in an attempt to outrun the deputy.
Reports say Viesti was seen pulling into his garage at 2196 Canary Island Cove.
Viesti was charged with fleeing, resisting a law enforcement officer without violence and driving under the influence.
