Miami Man Charged With Carjacking In Golden Gate

A Miami-Dade County man is facing a felony charge after deputies say he tried to steal another man’s car outside a Golden Gate Laundromat on Thursday.

Omar Cartajena, 30, who arrest reports say is homeless from Miami, was charged with carjacking.

Arrest reports say Dennys Guitierrez –Jarquin, 25, told deputies that he was inside 24 Hour Laundry Mat, 4045 Golden Gate Parkway, around 12:30 p.m. when he heard his truck engine accelerating.

He left the business and saw Cartajena sitting in the driver’s seat, backing the truck out of its parking spot, reports said.

Guitierrez-Jarquin said he opened the driver’s-side door of the truck and confronted Cartajena, who continued to drive in reverse, reports said. The truck stalled and Cartajena attempted to strike Guitierrez-Jarquin with the open door several times.

Cartajena then ran out of the vehicle, reports said.

Deputies located Cartajena a couple of hours later outside La Mexicana, 4055 23rd Ave. S.W., Golden Gate, after a witness told deputies he had seen Cartajena run from the Laundromat and change his clothes, reports said.
