2 Teens Charged With Armed Robbery

Two teens are facing multiple felony charges after deputies say they robbed a Naples Park homeowner at gunpoint and then stole his car late Sunday night.

Juan S. Toro, 17, 539 105th Ave. N., Naples Park, and Darrick J. Settles, 16, 751 108th Ave. N., Naples Park, were arrested and charged with armed robbery, kidnapping, grand theft, grand theft auto and battery. Settles also faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and driving on a suspended license.

The 31-year-old victim told deputies that Toro and Settles were playing video games at his residence at 751 108th Ave. N., Apt. B, around 9 p.m. Sunday when Settles struck him on the head with a gun. Settles and Toro bound the victim with duct tape and searched the residence for valuables, according to arrest reports.

Toro and Settles fled in the victim’s vehicle, making off with a PlayStation, cell phones, a laptop computer and other valuables from inside the victim’s residence, reports said.

Minutes later, deputies located the stolen vehicle, with Settles and Toro inside, traveling east on Pine Ridge Road. Deputies conducted a traffic stop and took Settles and Toro into custody, reports said.

Deputies searched the vehicle and found all of the items reported stolen by the victim, along with a silver semi-automatic pistol.

At the time of his arrest, Settles had four active warrants for his arrest for failing to appear in court on unrelated misdemeanor and felony charges, which deputies also charged him with, reports said.
