Deputies Seek Public’s Help

Deputies are asking for help from the public in locating the driver of a vehicle that collided with a golf cart, injuring three people, following the ACE Group Classic golf tournament at the Quarry in Golden Gate on Sunday night.

The vehicle fled the scene of the accident, which occurred in the parking lot at the Quarry around 7:10 p.m., according to deputies.

Deputies gave this account:

A golf cart carrying three people entered the parking lot when it was struck head-on by a sport utility vehicle. Witnesses told deputies that the driver of the SUV drove over the top of the golf cart and left the scene.

The two passengers in the golf cart, Diane Schaefer, 56, and her husband David Schaefer, 61, of New York were flown by helicopter to Lee Memorial Hospital in Fort Myers. The driver of the golf cart, whose name and age were unavailable late Sunday, was transported by ambulance to NCH Downtown Naples Hospital.

None of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening, deputies said.

Deputies said the SUV was described as white, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle had damage to the front end and to the grill. There was also damage to the wheel well on the driver’s side.

Details will be released as they become available.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Collier County Sheriff’s Office at 252-9300.
