Everglades Celebrates America’s Independence

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office participated in Everglades City’s annual Independence Day parade.

McGruff the Crime Dog led the parade Saturday from its starting point at Everglades City Motel, 310 Collier Blvd., to its destination at McLeod Park, 101 W. Broadway. Teenagers who participated in last year’s Build-A-Boat program proudly showed off their finished boat while tossing CCSO beach balls to the crowd along the parade route.

When the parade ended, Everglades residents gathered at McLeod Park for the annual Picnic in the Park.. There was food and music, and prizes were awarded to the best floats. McGruff continued the celebration by taking pictures with the kids and giving out CCSO frisbees.
