Community Takes A Stand Against Human Trafficking

The Collier County Sheriff’s Office, in partnership with the Collier County Coalition Against Human Trafficking, held an anti-human trafficking community event in Immokalee on Saturday at Immokalee Community Park, 321 N. 1st St.

More than 400 seasonal farm workers and members of the community attended the second annual “A Day without Slavery” event to learn more about human trafficking and ways to identify victims of human trafficking.

Members of the Sheriff's Office Immokalee substation, Minority Affairs Task force and Crime Prevention Section spoke with residents about programs the Sheriff's Office offers to the public. The Collier County Health Department and other area service providers offered information and services to attendees as well.

This event offered entertainment; refreshments and students from Ave Maria University provided fun activities for children. The CCSO also gave out and helped install bike lights for any bicyclists who brought their bikes to the event.
