Media Opportunity: Joint Dive Training Exercise Thursday

A teenager drives his car into a lake after suffering a medical emergency.

A passer-by sees the car go in the water and calls 911.

Collier County first responders are dispatched to the scene.

This fictional scenario will be played out during a joint training exercise Thursday, Feb. 21, conducted by the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, North Naples Fire Department, Golden Gate Fire Department, Collier County Emergency Medical Services, East Naples Fire Department, Marco Island Fire Department, and Naples Fire Department. Divers, paramedics, emergency medical technicians, deputies, police officers, dispatchers, pilots and firefighters representing those agencies will participate.

The media is invited to attend the exercise, which will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at Price Lake at Collier County Junior Deputy Camp Discovery, 8520 Collier Blvd., East Naples (just south of Florida Sports Park and east of Rattlesnake Hammock Road). Click on the link for directions:

The purpose of this joint exercise is to continue training that began in 1995 between responding agencies in Collier County that would jointly respond to an emergency. The terminal objectives are to: review and improve cooperation and communication between agencies; practice unified command; practice quick entry, search and recovery response to a submersion accident by Collier County public safety divers; and review and practice patient care and transport of a drowning victim and associated medical issues.
