CCSO will host a public reception for the 11th installment of the Community Gallery, an arts exhibit housed within the Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, Nov. 7, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The gallery is located at the administrative offices on the second floor of CCSO headquarters, 3319 U.S. 41 E., Bldg. J., East Naples.
Approximately 20 pieces of artwork by child residents of Youth Haven through its art program will be on display through February 2014.
Youth Haven has been protecting abused children and strengthening fragile families in Collier County since 1972.
CCSO has had a longstanding partnership with Youth Haven.
The Youth Haven Art Program is a powerful platform to positive self-exploration offering helpful coping strategies for stress relief and mindful healing in the context of a safe and freeing communicative process, said Amy Jensen, art teacher for Youth Haven.
Jensen said every child is unique and comes to Youth Haven with a complex history of experiences, they are traumatized and in desperate need of healing.
Moved by materials and process, their confidence develops within the meditative moments drawing, painting, sculpting and connecting to the work they create. What is achieved is more than a visual product; it is an outlet to freedom of expression, she said.
The gift of the visual arts resonates within each Youth Haven artist, laying the foundation in which to build their promising futures beginning from within, she said.
The CCSO Community Gallery welcomes any local public service organizations interested in setting up a future exhibit.
