Man Charged with Shoplifting Hermes

The shirts were Hermes and worth $4,000.

So was the overcoat valued at nearly $5,000.

But after stealing the good stuff, his new wardrobe included handcuffs and a wardrobe change into a less-than-stylish orange jumpsuit.

Diego Andres Garcia-Rivera, 41, of Miami, was arrested Thursday and charged with two counts of grand theft after deputies say he stole the shirts and raincoat from the Hermes store at Waterside
Shops in North Naples.

Deputies say:

He stuffed the shirts, including their hangers with the store logo on them and the price tags still attached, under the shirt he was wearing and left the store and threw them on the ground as he tried to make his getaway. He was caught outside the store.

Deputies say he'd bundled up an overcoat valued at $5,600 on Nov. 8 and stuffed it under his clothes. That theft was caught on video camera, but not noticed at the time, deputies say.

Garcia-Rivera told deputies that he takes what he steals in Naples and sells it in Miami. For instance, he'd sold the coat for $250 at a Miami flea market and expected to get $100 each for the expensive shirts.

His customers pay cash, he said.
