An Estero man stole nearly $500,000 while working as a Service Manager for a North Naples car dealership, reports say.
Robert Tozzi, 44, was charged with scheming to defraud over $50,000. In 1998, the dealership formed a distributorship called Custom Pro-Fit Inc. to purchase accessories for trucks and Sports Utility Vehicles directly from the manufacturers. Tozzi was in charge of handling the distributorship’s accounts.
Tozzi was fired in March 2006 for poor job performance. Shortly after, Bob Taylor received calls from suppliers working with Custom Pro-Fit requesting to be paid for several large outstanding balances.
Taylor could not find Custom Pro-Fit’s checkbook, bank statements and corporate records inside Tozzi’s office.Taylor was able to review some statements from the company’s bank account and realized that Tozzi stole the money intended to pay the suppliers and contacted CCSO.
After examining years of the account's financial records, investigators believe that Tozzi stole nearly $500,000 from January 2003 to March 2006.
A warrant was issued and Tozzi turned himself into the Naples Jail Center on Wednesday.
