CHARGES: Armed robbery and grand theft more than $20,000
Deputies say that Gonzalez-Mercado helped robbed an East Naples check cashing store in April 2006.
Investigators give this account:
Rodrigo Morales and his wife were opening the store for the day when two men with handguns and wearing masks entered the store.
One of the men emptied the store’s safe and the two took off in a car.
CCSO was contacted on Oct. 13, 2007 when a non-related Marine investigation revealed that Gonzalez-Mercado was one of the men involved in the armed robbery.
Deputies located Gonzalez-Mercado at a parking lot on Collier Boulevard and Immokalee Road Monday evening.
The investigation continues.
