Pot Pursuit Ends With Two Jailed

Tossing $30,000 worth of drugs away still didn't allow this couple to make their getaway.

The drugs - 30 pounds of marijuana - came flying out of a car window in Bonita Springs after Collier County sheriff's deputies tried to stop the car for speeding Wednesday night.

Arrested were: Manuel De La Rosa, 30, and Amanda De La Rosa, 25, both of 221 North Fourth St., Immokalee. They were charged with trafficking in marijuana, high speed fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license and tampering/destruction of evidence.

Reports give this account:

Deputies tried to stop the car around 8:40 p.m. near Mile Marker No. 112 on Interstate 75, which is just south of the Lee County line.

The black Mitsubishi was speeding and weaving on the interstate. Deputies chased the car for about nine miles and along the way the pot was thrown from the car. The pursuit ended on Terry Street in Bonita Springs after a short foot chase.

Both were taken to the Lee County jail.

And the marijuana was recovered.
