Traffic Stop Uncovers Sex Offender

Two men were arrested and charged when deputies pulled over a Ford F-150 pick-up late Monday night.

Deputies were patrolling Everglades Boulevard and 66th Avenue Northeast when they saw the truck had no tag light. Inside the truck were a brand new washer and dryer with the shipping tags still attached, reports say.

Nelson Garcia Vasquez, 46, of 2840 39th Ave. N.E. and Melvin Fuentes, 36, of Lehigh Acres, gave investigators conflicting stories on why they were out driving so late while transporting the washer and dryer.

Deputies also learned that Fuentes was a sexual offender who failed to change his address when he moved to Lehigh one month ago.

Vasquez was charged with loitering or prowling. Fuentes was charged with failing to register as a sexual offender.

The investigation continues.
