Two people were killed Tuesday when the helicopter they were in exploded after crashing onto a runway in the Everglades.
CCSO responded to the crash, which was reported at 12:37 p.m., at the Dade County Port Authority, 54575 U.S. 41 E. The jetport straddles the Collier and Miami-Dade County line.
Eyewitnesses told deputies that the four-seat chopper appeared to be practicing take-offs and landings when it suddenly rose and flipped on its back, crashing onto the runway and exploding on impact.
The identities of the two victims were not known Tuesday afternoon.
