Reckless Driver Gets What He Asks For: Jail

A motorist who deputies say was driving drunk at speeds reaching more than 90 mph on Immokalee Road during the evening rush hour Wednesday got what he asked for:

A trip to the Collier County jail.

Christian Kantainis, 39, 2915 27th Ave. N.E., Golden Gate Estates, was charged with DUI-third violation and reckless driving.

Reports say Kantainis was driving a black Nissan 300z at a high rate of speed on Immokalee Road around 5:45 p.m. The Nissan was weaving in and out of rush-hour traffic, forcing several cars off the road.

Deputies estimated the Nissan was traveling 95 mph on Immokalee Road near Twin Eagles Boulevard, where the posted speed limit is 45 mph.

Deputies stopped the Nissan near the intersection of Immokalee Road and Randall Boulevard in Golden Gate Estates.

Reports say Kantainis was unsteady on his feet as he got out of his car. His eyes were bloodshot and glassy and his speech was slurred. Deputies detected an odor of alcohol coming from Kantainis.

When deputies asked him if he would perform some exercises to determine his level of sobriety, Kantainis responded, “Why don’t you just take me to jail,” reports said.

The deputy asked him why, and Kantainis responded, “Because I should not be driving a car,” reports said.
