WHAT: Students donate money for CCSO K-9 vests
WHEN: Wednesday, May 28, 9:30 a.m.
WHERE: Lely Elementary School, 8125 Lely Cultural Parkway, Naples
SYNOPSIS: Lely Elementary School fifth-graders will present CCSO with more than $1,500 to buy bulletproof vests for members of the agency’s K-9 unit.
In addition, a member of CCSO's K-9 Unit will demonstrate what the agency's dogs do, show how the vests work and interact with students.
Students raised the money over the course of several weeks by collecting spare change in jars placed throughout the school. Dubbed “Coins For K-9,” the effort also provided valuable lessons in collecting, sorting and adding money.
CCSO dogs are exposed to dangerous situations, and the vests provide them with much-needed protection. The vests not only shield the dogs from bullets, but from other risks, like being stabbed.
