Career Criminal Sentenced To 10 Years

A documented Collier County career criminal and street gang member was sentenced Monday to 10 years in prison after pleading no contest to a charge of unlawful sexual activity with a minor.

Andre Belvin, 28, who is listed as homeless on arrest records, also will serve three years of state sex offender probation and have to register as a sex offender after his release. He was sentenced by Collier Circuit Judge Frederick R. Hardt.

Belvin's sentencing was in connection with the Nov. 9, 2006, rape of a 17-year-old girl in a vacant house on 23rd Place Southwest in Golden Gate.

Belvin has two prior felony convictions in Collier County. On Feb. 12, 2001, he pleaded to robbery and received a five-year sentence. On April 20, 1999, he was sentenced to time served after pleading guilty to vehicle burglary.
