Deputies Issue Counterfeit Check Alert

Deputies are alerting the public that they should be suspicious of payroll checks drawn on Park Shore Towers Owners Association.

CCSO investigators say they have arrested several people over the past two weeks who have presented counterfeit Park Shore Towers checks to Collier County merchants to be cashed. Most recently, three people were arrested Tuesday night at a North Naples Publix supermarket in connection with these checks. On Monday, four Miami residents were arrested on similar charges after deputies say they presented fake Park Shore Towers checks at the Publix supermarket at 8585 Collier Blvd.

In Tuesday’s case, Marquette Green, 21, and Devon Benjamin, 22, both of Miami, were charged with uttering a counterfeit instrument. Janet Albury, 22, also of Miami, was charged with conspiring to commit a felony.

Reports give the following account of their arrest:

Green, Benjamin and Albury entered the Publix at 2310 Pine Ridge Road together at around 7:30 p.m. Green and Benjamin both presented Park Shore Towers checks to be cashed at the customer service counter. The clerk refused to cash the checks and called deputies. In the meantime, Green and Albury left the store. Benjamin was still at the customer service counter when deputies arrived. Green and Albury were apprehended after leaving the store. Albury was in possession of a Park Shore Towers check.

Anyone who is suspicious of a Park Shore Towers payroll check that is being presented for payment should call CCSO at 239-793-9300 or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-780-TIPS (8477).
