Deputies: Man Tried To Buy Cocaine

A 53-year-old man was arrested Tuesday on felony drug charges after he tried to buy cocaine from an undercover deputy in Golden Gate, sheriff’s reports said.

Louis Alan Berkel, 1780 43rd Terrace S.W., Golden Gate, was charged with attempting to purchase cocaine.

Arrest reports say deputies received information that Berkel was purchasing cocaine in Collier County.

Around 4 p.m. Tuesday an undercover investigator with the sheriff’s vice and narcotics bureau negotiated with Berkel to sell him a quarter of an ounce of cocaine in exchange for $270, reports said.

The undercover investigator met with Berkel shortly before 8 p.m. in a parking lot off Golden Gate Parkway. Berkel gave the investigator $270 and the investigator handed him a quarter of an ounce of placebo cocaine, reports said.

Berkel was then arrested and booked into the Collier County jail, reports said.
