Motorcyclist Arrested After Nearly Striking Deputies

A motorcyclist was arrested on a felony charge early Tuesday after he nearly struck several CCSO deputies and ignored their orders to stop, sheriff’s reports said.

Michael S. Bennett, 19, 2324 Kings Lake Blvd., East Naples, was charged with fleeing and eluding.

Arrest reports say Bennett was driving a black motorcycle at a high rate of speed east on Lorraine Avenue near Donna Street around 2:15 a.m. when he nearly struck the back of a marked patrol car with a deputy inside.

Bennett, who was wearing beige shirt with multicolor stripes, continued east on Lorraine Avenue toward a group of deputies who were standing in the street on an unrelated call, reports said. There were also several patrol cars with their lights activated in the area. The deputies in the street had to jump out of the way to avoid being struck by the motorcycle.

Deputies yelled at Bennett to stop, but he continued to accelerate, even failing to stop for deputies in patrol cars who activated their lights and sirens.

Deputies followed Bennett as he traveled north on Esther Street, east on Radio Road and then south on Leawood Lake Circle before briefly losing sight of him, reports said. Deputies almost immediately located the motorcycle on the side of 342 Leawood Lakes Circle. Further investigation revealed the bike was registered to Bennett.

Deputies located Bennett walking along Davis Boulevard near Kings Lake Boulevard. He was soaking wet, scratched up and carrying a beige shirt with multicolor stripes, reports said.
