Wal-Mart Workers Aid Arrest

A 21-year-old man was arrested Wednesday night after employees at an East Naples Wal-Mart watched him steal DVDs and other merchandise from the store and then cornered him until deputies arrived, sheriff’s reports said.

Miguel Perez-Hernandez, who did not list an address on arrest reports, was charged with grand theft and obstruction.

Arrest reports say employees at the Wal-Mart Supercenter, 6650 Collier Blvd., told deputies they watched Perez-Hernandez remove merchandise from store shelves and then use pliers that he took from the store to cut off the security devices around 8 p.m.

One employee told deputies he saw Perez-Hernandez remove a video camera from his pants and place it under a straw hat, reports said.

When store employees confronted Perez-Hernandez, he tried to run away but the employees cornered him, reports said.

When deputies arrived the employees were standing around Perez-Hernandez to keep him from leaving the store, reports said.

Deputies say Perez-Hernandez stole a high-definition video camera, a cell phone, an “Iron Man” DVD, along with other DVDs and merchandise valued at more than $400.
