Deputies: Man Took Groceries

An East Naples man was arrested after deputies say he tried to steal more than $400 worth of groceries from a supermarket Monday.

Roy Gillespie, 51, 4060 Bayshore Drive, was charged with grand theft and trespassing.

According to arrest reports, Gillespie entered the Albertson’s at 3350 U.S. 41 East and filled a cart with meat and other items before walking past all checkout points and leaving the store. Reports said a store employee followed him out and detained him until deputies arrived.

Deputies learned that Gillespie had been issued a trespass warning to stay out of the store in September of 2007.

Items in Gillespie’s cart had a combined value of $419.56.
