WHAT: Home invasion robbery
WHEN: Thursday, Sept. 25, 2008
TIME: 11:56 p.m.
LOCATION: 5350 Grand Cypress Circle, Apt. #204, North Naples
SUMMARY: Deputies are searching for five armed men who forced their way into an apartment at the Summer Winds complex, picking up a 4-year-old child as they made their getaway.
Deputies say the victims were asleep in their bedrooms except for a woman and two children, ages 1 and 4, who were in the living room watching cartoons when five men wearing masks and carrying guns forced their way inside.
The robbers pointed their guns at the woman and ordered her to the floor. The woman told deputies that she and the children began screaming, causing a man and a woman who were in one of the back bedrooms to come out. The robbers ordered them to the floor, but they retreated back to the bedroom.
One of the robbers stole a laptop computer off the coffee table in the living room while another picked up the 4-year-old child as the robbers hurried out of the apartment.
Two women who were in another bedroom came out to see what was happening only to learn that the 4-year-old had been taken by one of the robbers.
The robbers headed west across the apartment complex, releasing the child a few buildings away. They got into a black sport utility vehicle and sped off.
Deputies searched the area but were unsuccessful in locating the suspects.
None of the victims were injured during the robbery, deputies said.
Deputies say all of the robbers were black and were wearing blue shirts and dark trousers.
