Update: Man Charged With Pointing Gun At Deputy

3rd UPDATE: A fourth person has been arrested on felony charges in connection with this incident.

Lorenzo B. Johnson, 19, was arrested this week in Georgia by deputies with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office. Johnson was arrested on a warrant out of Collier County charging him with aggravated assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest without violence.

Investigators say he pointed a gun at a Collier County sheriff’s deputy.

Johnson, 281 Hawkins Drive, Summerville, Ga., is being held in the Chattooga County jail awaiting extradition to Collier County.



2nd UPDATE: A third person has been arrested in connection with this incident.

Marlena Malice Elbert, 21, 579 13th St. N., Naples, was arrested Thursday and charged with obstruction.

Arrest reports say she gave false information to deputies regarding their investigation into this incident.

The investigation continues.

UPDATE: Two men were arrested Tuesday in connection with this incident, sheriff’s reports said.

Justin Armster, 19, and Jaroy Jamall Gaines, 20, both of 342 Osprey Landings Drive, Apt. 2108, East Naples, were each charged with resisting arrest without violence.

Arrest reports say Armster and Gaines were among four people a CCSO deputy saw walking along 14th Street North near Fifth Avenue North in Naples immediately after the deputy heard gunshots in that area.

The deputy ordered Armster and Gaines to “stay here” while he pursued one of the suspects, who took off running, reports said. When the deputy returned, Armster and Gaines were gone, reports said.

Deputies located Armster and Gaines at their apartment around 6:45 p.m. Tuesday and arrested them, reports said.

WHEN: Monday, Sept. 8, 2008

TIME: 10:57 p.m.

LOCATION: River Park community, Naples

SUMMARY: Investigators are searching for a man who they say pointed a gun at a Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputy after shots were fired in River Park.

Sheriff’s Office reports gave this account:

The deputy was working on another case in the area of Fifth Avenue North and 13th Street North when he heard several gunshots coming from the area of 14th Street North. As the deputy drove toward 14th Street North he heard more gunshots.

The deputy saw three men and a woman walking along 14th Street North near Fifth Avenue North and ordered them to stop. Two of the men complied, while the third man ran away.

The deputy pursued the man. The man turned around and pointed a handgun at the deputy. The deputy took cover behind a house and the man ran into a canal that backed onto 13th Street North.

Deputies and Naples police officers searched on the ground and in the air, but were unsuccessful.

An investigation continues.
