Chase Ends After Driver Jumps Out Of Moving Car

A 20-year old driver was arrested early Thursday after deputies say he was speeding and wouldn’t stop for deputies, leading them on a brief pursuit that ended in a North Naples apartment complex after he jumped out his car while it was still moving.

Juan Ruben Gonzalez, 5582 Jonquil Circle, Apt. 108, North Naples, was charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, resisting arrest, driving on a suspended license, having an unassigned license plate tag, and failure to register a motor vehicle.

Arrest reports gave this account:

Gonzalez was driving a red Nissan sports car that was traveling 60 mph in a 45 mph zone west on Immokalee Road near the intersection with Livingston Road about 4 a.m. A deputy in a patrol car with his lights and sirens activated attempted to pull the Nissan over, but Gonzalez slammed on the brakes, spinning out into the intersection.

Gonzalez headed north on Livingston, with the deputy in pursuit, with speeds reaching 110 mph. Gonzalez then turned south onto Livingston, losing control of the Nissan, which spun out into traffic. He turned east onto Immokalee Road, running a red light and cutting off several vehicles.

Gonzalez then turned south onto Juliet Boulevard and into the Summer Lake apartment complex, where he jumped out of the Nissan as it continued to move with nobody behind the wheel.

Deputies continued to chase Gonzalez on foot as he jumped over a playground fence and then tackled him behind an apartment building.
