Deputies: Make Your Car Unattractive To Burglars

A recent spike in North Naples vehicle break-ins has deputies reminding the public to secure their cars and report suspicious activity.

Deputies do not believe all the break-ins are related. The targeted vehicles do have two things in common, however: They were either unlocked or contained something of value that could be seen from outside the car.

North Naples has experienced 33 vehicle burglaries since Oct. 6. Areas that have been hit include Tall Pines, Pelican Bay, Naples Park and Willoughby Acres and the parking lot at Carrabba’s Italian Grill on U.S. 41 North. Deputies charged Christopher Michael Poore, 22, with seven vehicle break-ins in Pelican Bay. The rest of the car burglaries remain under investigation.

Always secure your vehicle when it is parked. The windows should be rolled up and the doors should be locked. Never leave keys, cell phones, computers, portable DVD players, purses, money or other valuables in the vehicle. At night park in well lit areas when possible.

Also, remember to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity to CCSO immediately.
