A 48-year-old Pensacola area man has been arrested after he committed a lewd act on a webcam to an undercover Collier County Sheriff’s Office investigator posing as a child,
sheriff’s reports said.
Michael Smith, 1262 Greenview Lane, Gulf Breeze is facing four counts of online solicitation and one count of lewd and lascivious behavior via a webcam.
Investigators say Smith contacted a person whom he thought was an 11-year-old Collier County girl in an online chat room in February. For eight months Smith had sexually explicit
conversations with the child, who was really an undercover CCSO detective.
Smith also committed a lewd act on a webcam, which revealed his face and the room he was in inside his home, investigators said.
During the chats Smith tried to arrange to travel to Collier County to meet the girl, who turned 12 during the course of the investigation, but he later changed his mind, investigators said.
CCSO deputies, with assistance from the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, arrested Smith on Oct. 31.
Smith was booked into the Santa Rosa County Jail. He is awaiting extradition to Collier County
