Man Charged With Impersonating Cop

A New Jersey man was arrested on a felony charge Monday after deputies say he went to a North Naples apartment complex wearing an empty gun holster and falsely told the property manager he was a police officer.

Vadzim G. Maroz, 31, of Mays Landing, N.J., was also carrying a large knife and a stun gun when deputies arrested him on the grounds of the St. Croix apartment complex, 4600 St. Croix Lane, according to sheriff’s reports.

Arrest reports gave this account:

Maroz entered the clubhouse around 2:15 p.m. and told the property manager, James Kelly, that his name was “George” and that he was visiting friends at the complex. Kelly told Maroz that he couldn’t be on the property unless he was with someone who lived there.

Maroz then walked to the pool area followed by Kelly, who asked him to leave. Maroz, who was wearing an empty holster around his chest, told Kelly not to worry because he was a police officer and was there to protect Kelly.

Maroz became agitated and insisted he could be there because he was a police officer. Kelly said an object that looked like a gun fell out of a bag that Maroz was carrying. Maroz picked up the gun and told Kelly he had a permit for it.

Deputies arrived and asked Maroz if he was a police officer. Maroz told deputies, “I work for NYPD and Trump Casino.’’

Maroz gave deputies permission to search him. Deputies found a large knife in Maroz’s right pant pocket and a stun gun in his bag.

Maroz was arrested and charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer and carrying a concealed weapon.
