Deputies: Victim Helps Nab Car Burglar

Deputies arrested a 21-year-old man on multiple felony charges late Sunday after he broke into another man’s car in North Naples and then led the victim and deputies on a chase, sheriff’s reports said.

Jason L. Jarvis, 960 Chalmer Drive, Apt. 108, Marco Island, was charged with burglary, grand theft, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, fleeing and eluding, possession of cocaine, possession of narcotic equipment, and resisting arrest.

Arrest reports gave this account:

Richard Hicks, 36, told deputies that a friend was walking to his house in the 1200 block of Rosemary Court around 8:45 p.m. when she spotted Jarvis and another man stealing tools and an air compressor from the back of Hicks’ Ford F150 pickup.

Hicks said he ran out of his house and saw Jarvis and another man putting items from his pickup into a white pickup and then drive off. Hicks then got inside his pickup and gave chase.

Hicks chased the white pickup, driven by Jarvis, south on Goodlette-Frank Road. At the intersection with Golden Gate Parkway, Hicks pulled his truck in front of Jarvis’ pickup, which then struck Hicks’ truck. Jarvis then did a U-turn and headed north on Goodlette-Frank.

Hicks then alerted deputies, who located Jarvis’ pickup in the parking lot at 4910 U.S. 41 E. Jarvis and his unidentified passenger got out of the pickup and ran.

Deputies apprehended Jarvis after a brief foot chase. The passenger could not be located, reports said.

A search of Jarvis turned up three small bags of cocaine in his right front pocket, reports said.

An investigation continues.
