Media Opportunity Saturday

WHAT: Adopt A Soldier Final Packing Day

WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008

TIME: 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

LOCATION: Collier County Sheriff’s Office, 3301 U.S. 41 E., Bldg. J, second floor main lobby

SUMMARY: Dozens of Collier County Sheriff’s Office members and citizen volunteers will gather at CCSO to box care packages that will be sent to members of the military.

Volunteers have already boxed 1,300 care packages for members of the military through CCSO’s Adopt-A-Soldier program. Volunteers expect to put together some 700 more packages Saturday.

The boxes will include toiletries, videos, books, snacks and other items donated by local citizens and businesses. Each box will also include a personal letter from Sheriff Don Hunter.

The packages will be loaded into a trailer Sunday and driven to the United Service Organizations in Jacksonville for distribution to soldiers around the world.

“This year’s goal is 2008 (packages) for the year 2008,” said Cpl. Sandy Mendez, program coordinator.

Last year, 1,306 care packages were collected and sent.

CCSO would like to thank everyone who contributed to the program.

MEDIA NOTE: Media representatives should go to the second floor of the main lobby of Building J and contact program coordinator Sandy Mendez at 280-8548 to arrange for an escort to the packing area.
