Shipping Store Employee Charged With Theft

A 21-year-old East Naples UPS store worker is facing felony charges after deputies say he stole computers and other items that were being shipped through that branch, sheriff’s reports said.

Eric Alexander McComas, 980 Auto Ranch Road, Apt. 3, was arrested Tuesday and charged with grand theft, dealing in stolen property, defrauding a pawn broker and petty theft.

Arrest reports say McComas stole two Dell laptop computers valued at $860 and $400, a Dell flat panel computer monitor valued at $105 and a Bose portable speaker system valued at $299 from the UPS store at 971 Commercial Blvd., where he works.

McComas was sorting packages and when he found the boxes containing the items he opened them, reports said. The thefts occurred on Monday, Dec. 18 and Dec. 5, reports said.

McComas sold the speaker system to Capital Pawn Superstore at 1933 Davis Blvd. in East Naples.

A store security supervisor told deputies that McComas had been acting suspicious at work and that other employees had seen him placing packages under his work station that should not have been there, reports said.
