Deputies: Son Stole Mom’s Car

A 45-year-old man is facing a felony charge after deputies say he stole his mother’s car after she told him he wasn’t allowed to drive it anymore.

Michael Warren Murphy, who arrest reports say is homeless, was arrested Sunday and charged with grand theft auto.

Arrest reports say Marlene Feldi, 68, of East Naples, told deputies that she loaned her 1999 silver Honda to Murphy, her son, for work purposes only. On Dec. 31 she told him he was no longer allowed to use the car because she was not going to renew the insurance on it, reports said.

She said Murphy told her he was going to take the car anyway. She again told him not to take it and he laughed at her and said, “Too bad,” according to reports.

Murphy then left, taking her keys and her car, reports said. Feldi told deputies she hasn’t seen her son since, reports said.

Deputies located Murphy at the Spinnaker Inn, 6600 Dudley Drive, North Naples, around 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Deputies also recovered Feldi’s Honda, which was parked outside Murphy’s hotel room, reports said.
