A Golden Gate woman is facing multiple felony charges after deputies say she left the scene of an accident while driving impaired and was later found to be in possession of a stolen laptop computer.
Christine Arnsteen, 22, 2172 41st Terrace S.W., was charged with DUI, DUI with property damage, leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage, burglary and grand theft.
This is what happened, according to reports:
Deputies were called to White Boulevard and 31st Street Southwest at 8:44 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report of a white Jeep leaving the scene of an accident. While en route, they saw a white Jeep with front bumper damage and pulled it over near the intersection of Collier Boulevard and 18th Avenue Southwest.
The driver of that vehicle was identified as Christine Arnsteen. Information developed during the traffic stop helped deputies to determine that the Jeep she was driving was the one that had been involved in the accident. Deputies also suspected that Arnsteen was under the influence of alcohol or drugs. After failing a field sobriety test she agreed to take a Breathalyzer test. That test determined that she had a blood-alcohol level of 0.0. She was then evaluated by a certified CCSO drug recognition expert and charged with DUI.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m. the same day deputies were called to 1471 9th St. S.W., Golden Gate, to respond to a report of a missing laptop computer. Victim Tara Arnsteen told deputies the laptop was on a desk when she left the home at 6:30 a.m. but later turned up missing. In describing the computer, she told deputies that the screen saver was a photograph of herself and her husband.
Deputies determined that Tara Arnsteen’s stepdaughter, Christine Arnsteen, had been in possession of a similar laptop in her Jeep when she was arrested earlier that day. The laptop had been checked in at the Naples jail and placed with Christine Arnsteen's personal property items.
Deputies examined the laptop at the jail and determined through the password provided by the victim and the photograph on the screen saver that it belonged to Tara Arnsteen.
