SUMMARY: New, Philistin and Poydras were charged with breaking into an apartment and then leading deputies on a brief vehicle pursuit before being apprehended by deputies.
Investigators say New, Philistin and Poydras went to this apartment and banged on the doors and windows to see if anyone was home. Victim Carlos Barcenos told deputies he had been asleep when he heard banging at his apartment.
He looked out his peephole and saw the three suspects walking away. The three then got into a red sport utility vehicle and drove away, investigators said.
A short while later New Philistin and Poydras returned to Barcenes’ residence, where they broke a window and went inside, investigators said. The three ran out of the apartment after the apartment was occupied.
Deputies arrived as the suspects were driving away in the SUV with the lights off. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the SUV, but New sped up and fled onto Radio Road, investigators said.
Deputies then engaged in a pursuit, which continued on to Davis Boulevard across Collier Boulevard and onto Beck Boulevard. The four-mile pursuit ended when the SUV came to a sudden stop in a driveway on Newman Drive.
New, Philistin and Poydras were taken into and transferred to the state Department of Juvenile Justice detention center.
