WHAT: CCSO Has Heart
WHEN: 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13
WHERE: CCSO Headquarters, 3301 U.S. 41 E., Building J., Naples. Come to the PIO entrance.
SYNOPSIS: Hearts are on everyone’s mind on Valentine’s Day, but the local community can take comfort in knowing that hearts are a Collier County Sheriff’s Office priority year-round.
All CCSO patrol cars are now equipped with Automated External Defibrillators, or AEDs, and lives are being saved as a result.
Media representatives are invited to see an AED demonstration and interview a CCSO deputy and the woman whose life he helped save by deploying an AED.
AEDs are computerized devices that are about the size of a laptop computer. They are attached to victims who are thought to be in cardiac arrest, and they provide voice and visual prompts to lead rescuers through the steps of operation.
AEDs analyze the victim's heart rhythm, determine if a defibrillation shock is needed, then prompt the rescuer to "clear" the victim and deliver a shock.
