Child Neglect Arrest

A 23-year-old man is facing a felony charge after deputies say a 2-year-old boy he was caring for ran out into traffic on U.S. 41 East and was nearly hit by three cars Monday night.

Pablo Orantes-Campos of East Naples was charged with child neglect. CCSO is not releasing Orantes-Campos’ address to protect the identity of the child.

Arrest reports say a motorist told deputies that she was driving west on U.S. 41 East near the intersection of Whistler’s Cove Circle around 9 p.m. when a small child ran out in front of her vehicle.

The woman told deputies that she immediately stopped her vehicle in the middle of the road and backed up to where the child was. Her husband then got out of the car and grabbed the child. She pulled over and waited for deputies to arrive, reports said.

Two other motorists also told deputies that they nearly hit the child, reports said.

Orantes-Campos told deputies that he was watching the boy while a parent ran an errand, reports said. He said he did not know the child had left the residence, reports said.
