Missing Boater Located

UPDATE: A Coast Guard helicopter pilot spotted Lou Bishoff waving toward him from his boat in the waters near Everglades City at about 10:15 p.m. A CCSO airboat is on its way to pick him up. More details will be released as they become available.

Deputies Search For Missing Boater

Deputies are searching for a 75-year-old man who has not been seen since Wednesday morning.

Reports say Lou Bishoff was last seen alone on his 14-foot johnboat around 11 a.m. Wednesday in the area of 1150 Chokoloskee Island Marina. The boat is green and has a 15-horsepower Mercury engine.

Bishoff, who is a seasonal resident from Montana, is an experienced boat captain. He was reported missing around 11:15 a.m. Family members say he has ongoing medical issues.

Deputies describe Bishoff as white, 5 feet 2 inches, 160 pounds and bald. It is unknown what he was wearing. CCSO Marine and Aviation, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and Everglades National Park are currently out searching the waterways.
