Collier County’s Community Traffic Safety Team earned third-place honors during the 2008 Florida Law Enforcement Challenge.
The team was presented with the award during a ceremony July 31 in Orlando.
It was the first time the team has competed in the challenge. The local team was one of 52 from around the state that participated.
Operating with clearly defined goals and objectives, the Collier County Community Traffic Safety Team demonstrated all that can be accomplished with a comprehensive, well-planned program. The team took part in a number of different initiatives and compiled an impressive list of accomplishments in 2008. The Collier County Community Traffic Safety Team is a model team, combining knowledge and resources to solve traffic safety problems throughout the county.
Florida's community traffic safety teams are locally based groups of traffic safety advocates. Members represent local city, county, and state agencies along with private industry representatives and local citizens. Active participants of Collier’s CTST include Collier County Transportation Services Division, Collier County Public Schools Transportation, Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Collier County Health Department, Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida, Naples Police and Emergency Services, Pathways Advisory Committee, Citizens Transportation Coalition, Metropolitan Planning Organization, and Florida Department of Transportation.
Team members work on a variety of projects with the ultimate goal of reducing the number and severity of traffic crashes, including bicycle/pedestrian crashes, through education, engineering and enforcement.
The Florida Law Enforcement Challenge is financed through grants from the Florida Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
