Bicyclists, Pedestrians Stay Safe By Being Seen

Deputies distributed free bike helmets, bike light kits and reflective safety vests Wednesday in East Naples.

Deputies were at St. Matthew’s House, 2001 Airport-Pulling Road, where they installed 85 front and 77 rear bike lights and distributed 55 adult helmets and 74 reflective vests. Pamphlets, fliers and other materials promoting bicycle and pedestrian safety were also available.

The effort was part of the Collier County Sheriff’s Office’s “Be Safe, Be Seen” safety initiative.

The initiative seeks to equip bicyclists and pedestrians in East Naples and Immokalee with education and safety equipment that greatly decreases their chance of being injured or killed in a traffic crash.

Funding for the yearlong initiative was provided by a grant through the Florida Department of Transportation.
