Media Opportunity Wednesday: Suspicious Package Demo

WHAT: Suspicious package demonstration

WHEN: Wednesday, July 14

LOCATION: Zemel Road Landfill is located in Charlotte County. From Collier County, take Interstate 75 heading north to the Tuckers Grade exit, turn left on U.S. 41 and then right on Zemel Road. Take the second entrance into the landfill.

TIME: 1 p.m.

SUMMARY: The Collier County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad in conjunction with the Southwest Florida Regional Bomb Squad will conduct a suspicious package demonstration for members of the media.

The purpose of the display is to demonstrate how dangerous an unknown package or device can be to the public and to law enforcement.

“We want to keep our public informed,” said Cmdr. Bob Lewis of CCSO Special Operations.

In recent weeks Southwest Florida law enforcement agencies have responded to several reports of suspicious packages and devices, which were found not to contain any explosives.

Several live devices will be detonated during the display Wednesday.
