A fiber optic break is causing a disruption to some phone services including 911 systems around Southwest Florida, including Collier County .
The fiber optic break, or cut, at a location in Lakeland is affecting various carriers used throughout Collier County , including the city of Naples .
The problem is sporadic, and not everyone who calls 911 will encounter a problem.
The Collier County Sheriff’s Office and Naples Police Department say there is no reason to panic and urge people not to test call 911.
Anyone in Collier County who needs emergency service is advised to call 911. Callers can also reach 911 by calling the Collier County Sheriff’s Office administrative line at 239.252.9300. If callers are unable to connect to 911 or the administrative line, they should call one of these cell phone numbers: 239.253.9132; 239.253.2837; 239.253.8431; 239.253.1957; 239.253.1142; 239.253.2920.
If phone contact is unsuccessful, persons are advised to call or go to the nearest Collier County sheriff’s substation, where deputies will be available to assist.
Anyone in the City of Naples who needs to contact 911 should keep trying to call from their land line, or call from a cell phone. Callers can also reach 911 by calling the Collier County Sheriff's Office administrative line at 239.252.9300.
City of Naples residents who are unable to get through to the 911 system are advised to go to any of the following sites, where an officer with a radio is assigned and can call in for help:
*Naples Police and fire department headquarters, 355 Riverside Circle , near the intersection of Goodlette-Frank Road and Fifth Avenue North.
*Naples Police and Fire Station One, 835 Eight Ave. S. (adjacent to Naples City Hall )
*Naples Police and Fire Station Two, 977 26th Ave. N
*Coastland Center, south parking lot entrance nearest the southwest parking structure, across from Fleischmann Park baseball fields.
*Lowdermilk Park , entrance to park at intersection of Gulf Shore Boulevard North and Banyan Boulevard .
*Naples Pier, intersection of Gulf Shore Boulevard South and 12th Avenue South .
*Port Royal Beach Club, entrance near Gordon Drive and Kingstown Drive
*Park Shore Plaza, flag pole in front of Perkins restaurant at U.S. 41 North, three quarters of a mile south of Seagate and Pine Ridge Road.
