Saturday, April 21: 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Barron Collier High School, 5600 Cougar Drive, North Naples
The program began in June 2009 and continues to grow in popularity.
Spots are available for the upcoming April 20-21 course and applications are still being accepted.
This course provides participants with the knowledge and hands-on experience needed to reduce the chance of being involved in a traffic crash. The driving skills taught are the same techniques used by driving professionals, including NASCAR.
The class consists of two training days. The first day is a four-hour block of instruction and the second day is an eight-hour block of vehicle operations.
Teen drivers will be behind the wheel of their own vehicle. Instructors are certified law enforcement trainers.
At the end of the class participants will receive a certificate of completion. Certificates can be presented to auto insurance companies for a possible premium reduction.
Participants must already have a driver's license.
The spring semester course will also feature a visit from local race car driver Michael Cenzi. Cenzi is partnering with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office to raise public awareness about the dangers of text-messaging while driving.
