UPDATE: Bank Robbery In East Naples

UPDATE: Wakim Stewart, 37, 1700 41st Terrace S.W., Golden Gate, was arrested Wednesday evening on a warrant in connection with this bank robbery.

Collier County Sheriff's Office detectives identified Stewart as a suspect through a separate investigation being conducted by the Seminole Police Department and the Collier County Sheriff's Office. The FBI also assisted in the investigation.
Members of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force located Stewart Wednesday at the Lani Kai Hotel, 1400 Estero Boulevard, Fort Myers Beach.  Deputies said he attempted to flee as they took him into custody but he was apprehended. Stewart also had a loaded firearm in his possession, they said.

Stewart is being charged with armed robbery and grand theft in connection with the bank robbery.  He also faces charges in Lee County relating to his apprehension.

On Wednesday evening he was being booked into the Lee County Jail.

Deputies are searching for a robber who held up an East Naples bank shortly before noon Tuesday.

The robbery at Bank of America, 4898 Davis Blvd., was reported at 11:57 a.m.

Detectives said a man entered the bank brandishing a handgun. He walked up to a teller and demanded money.

The teller gave the robber an undisclosed amount of cash. He left the bank.

No injuries were reported.

Detectives said the robber is described as black with a slender build. He was wearing a dark suit with a light shirt and dark tie and dark shoes. He had a dark ball cap on his head and a fanny pack around his waist. He may have left in a blue SUV or minivan.

Detectives have released these bank surveillance images of the suspect.

An investigation continues.
