UPDATE: Collier County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested a 28-year-old man early Wednesday morning after DNA tests linked him to an armed robbery at an East Naples bank in April.
Christopher David Cabrera, who arrest reports say is homeless, was located in North Naples around 1:45 a.m. and taken into custody without incident. Cabrera is charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, grand theft and committing a third-degree felony while wearing a mask in connection with the April 12 robbery at the Wells Fargo bank branch at 7255 Radio Road.
Cabrera entered the bank around 3:30 p.m. wearing a mask over his face and a glove on his left hand. He was brandishing what looked like a handgun, reports said.
He ordered a customer to the ground and demanded money from bank employees. While demanding money he slammed the gun onto the counter, causing the weapon to break. Further investigation revealed the gun was plastic.
The T-shirt, pants, shoes and jacket found in the Dumpster all had red stains consistent with a dye pack that was enclosed with the money given to the robber. The dye pack exploded after the robber had left the bank, reports said.
The clothing was forwarded to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Biology Laboratory for examination. A major DNA profile was obtained from the clothing, reports said.
DNA evidence from the clothing was collected and submitted to the federal Combined DNA Index System, or CODIS. Detectives were notified that the profile had been matched to Cabrera
