Firefighter Caught Speeding on Motorcycle

A Miami-Dade County firefighter was arrested Sunday in Immokalee after deputies say he was traveling more than 100 mph on his motorcycle.

Albert Michael Borges, 23, of Miami, was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving.

Reports say Collier County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call from the Florida Highway Patrol around 10 a.m. Sunday for assistance in intercepting a red 1999 Yamaha R6 motorcycle heading west on Interstate 75 at a high rate of speed.

Deputies, using radar, at State Road 29 near the interstate detected a motorcycle matching the FHP description at 111 mph., reports said

Deputies, traveling at speeds over 100 mph, attempted to close in on the motorcyclist on SR 29 as he neared Farm Worker Village in Immokalee, reports said. The bike began to slow as it neared a sheriff’s car that was stopped on the side of the road at Farm Worker Way and SR 29.

The driver, Borges, told deputies he had just got off work in Miami, where he is a firefighter, and that he did not know deputies were trying to catch him, reports said.
